How to Place a Hold
EFFECTIVE NOVEMBER 1, 2009: Library patrons who do not pick up their reserved materials may be charged $1.05 for each item. Please Note: The maximum number of holds is 15.
You may place a hold: The Library will notify you by e-mail, phone, or mail (your choice) when a hold is available for pick up. If you need help placing a hold, library staff will guide you through the process, or place a hold for you. HOW TO PLACE A HOLD ONLINE
To place a hold, you will need to log in to either Encore or the Classic Library Catalog. Both take you to the new system. See the instructions and samples below. - Username is your firstname lastname, as submitted on your library card application.
- Barcode is the number on the back of your LBPL card. All barcodes start with 23090.....etc. Be sure to enter your barcode without spaces.
- PIN is a 4 digit number that you selected when you signed up for a library card. If you know your PIN, you can change it once you're logged in. If you do not know your PIN, please visit any of our twelve LBPL locations to select a new PIN.

Placing a Hold Once You're Logged In
STEP 1. Find the material you'd like to place on hold. STEP 2. Click on the Request It button (Encore) or Request link (Classic Catalog). See Sample below. 
STEP 3. Select which Long Beach Public Library location you'd like to send the item to. Click the Submit button. See Sample below.
STEP 4: To confirm that your hold was placed, click on My Account (upper right hand corner in Encore) or Return to Your Record (Classic Catalog). Your hold will be displayed on the Main page. See Sample below.
