The land, adjacent to the area's largest shopping center, was donated to the city by local residents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd S. Whaley. The original book collection consisted of 28,890 volumes. Today the collection consists of approximately 51,000 volumes. The Los Altos Neighborhood Library is named after the community which it serves.
