Directions - The Los Altos Neighborhood Library is located at 5614 Britton Drive, at the southeast corner of Britton Drive and Daggett Street. A small library parking lot is located behind the library. Additional parking is available on nearby streets and at the Los Altos Shopping Center.

History The Los Altos Neighborhood Library opened in January 1957. The library was designed to serve a population of some 63,000 people in the eastern section of Long Beach. The land, adjacent to the area's largest shopping center, was donated to the city by local residents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd S. Whaley. The original book collection consisted of 28,890 volumes. Today the collection consists of approximately 51,000 volumes. The Los Altos Neighborhood Library is named after the community which it serves. City Council Representative Long Beach City Council 4th District, Patrick O'Donnell Collections - Children: popular fiction titles as well as subject material to support homework needs, with an emphasis on material for science projects.

Programs - The Los Altos Neighborhood Library Book Group meets the second Saturday of the month at 10:00 am. We discuss fiction and nonfiction books. Bring your favorite book title suggestions, favorite coffee mug and join your neighbors for lively discussions.
- Summer reading programs are offered for children, teens, and adults. Call for schedule, (562) 570-1045.
- Family Learning Center provides homework assistance to students in grades K - 8. Parents are encouraged to use the library with their children. The center is staffed with homework helpers to provide help with homework assignments and computer instruction. Call the library to confirm days and times, (562) 570-1045.
- One-hour, one-on-one computer classes are offered on beginning Internet, e-mail, basic spreadsheet, word processing, and basic catalog instruction. Advance sign-up required.
Facilities - The Lynda S. Fritz community meeting room has a capacity of 60 and is available on a rental basis.
- Two outdoor book drops located near the front entrance are open when the library is closed.
