Ruth Bach Neighborhood Library


Directions History Established in 1957, the Ruth Bach Neighborhood Library was named for Long Beach's first councilwoman. The current building, adjoining Heartwell Park and near the Long Beach Day Nursery, was opened February 21, 1958. City Council Representative Long Beach City Council 5th District Gerrie Schipske Collections Children: fiction, magazines, DVDs, music CDs, audio books, and subject material to support homework needs. Young Adult: fiction, non-fiction and magazines. Adult: fiction and non-fiction, periodicals and newspapers, and small rotating media collections including audio books, DVDs, and CDs.
Programs Bach Neighborhood Library Book Chat: Teens, their parents, and other adults are welcome to join the Bach Neighborhood Library Book Chat. The Book Chat meets the fourth Saturday of the month at 3:00 p.m. in the Bach Library Community Room.
Bach Neighborhood Library Mystery Readers Discussion Group: The Bach Mystery Readers Discussion Group meets the second Friday of the month, at 11:30 a.m. Each month features a different mystery theme. Please contact the Ruth Bach Library for a list of recommended books. The Family Learning Center provides homework assistance to students in grades K - 8. Parents are encouraged to use the library with their children. The center is staffed with homework helpers who provide help with homework assignments and computer instruction. Facilities Equipment This neighborhood library offers computers with Internet access, the library catalog, a community resource file, and various online reference resources. A library card number is needed to access the Internet. Access is on a first come basis and is limited to 30 minutes per day. Printing cost is $.15 per page.
