Local Author Talks @ Dana Library
Please join author Marcia Lee Harris at the Dana Library on Friday, July 12, 2013 at 11:30AM to discuss her book “Fanny Bixby Spencer: Long Beach’s Inspirational Firebrand” and talk about Fanny Bixby Spencer (1879-1930), a fascinating woman who chose to break away from societal norms and change California forever. She served in the Long Beach Police Department as America’s first policewoman, and later became one of the founders of the City of Costa Mesa in Orange County. Outside of her civic accomplishments, Fanny Bixby was an artist, pacifist, suffragist, child advocate, and foster mother among other things. Harris will come dressed as Fanny Bixby to share stories, as well as answer in-depth questions about Bixby’s life.
