About Us Established in 1962, the Friends of the Long Beach Public Library is a non-profit 501c3 organization. Our first goal is to preserve the freedom of the library and prevent censorship. We also advocate for a strong public library system. We provide materials, support summer reading programs, provide cultural and literary events for the community, fund training for library staff, and keep abreast of current issues affecting the library.
Thinking of reducing your collection of Coffee Table Books on the arts, gardening, planes, trains, history, military, travel and anything great? Think of donating to the Friends of the Long Beach Public Library. The Friends’ Bookstore at Main Library successfully auctions gently used books every month and can always use more. Proceeds from the auctions and bookstore are used to purchase new books for the library. Contact Friend Barbara Hubbs at (562) 425-1185 for more information.
Friends Library Card Sign Up Month Essay Contest The Friends of the Library are proud to announce the winners of our first Annual Essay contest in honor of National Library Card Sign-Up Month in September.
