The Ken Slaybaugh Scholarship Fund was founded in 2007 with a generous donation from Kenneth F. Slaybaugh, who loved libraries and wanted to encourage young people to enjoy the library. The Friends of the Long Beach Public Library continue to solicit contributions to this fund in order to provide incentives to deserving senior high school students who donate many hours of service to the library. Thus far, the Friends have given four college scholarships of $500 each. These awards are presented at the annual meeting.
